What Are Solo Ads & How Solo Ads Work
I’ve been hearing several questions lately: What are solo ads, How do solo ads work, and are solo ads worth it? I filmed a quick tutorial video after my first experience buying solo ads below, and will then answer each question specifically.
Solo ads are a relatively inexpensive way to build your own email list. If you’ve ever subscribed to an email list, you may have seen a solo ad in one of the emails you received. List owners rent advertising space to online advertisers, like me. There might be a banner in one of the emails sent out to subscribers, or the entire email might be dedicated to the advertiser who rented the ad space from the list owner.
The solo ad vendor I use most often will send an email dedicated to my campaign out to his list. It might say something like, “Would you like to live the freedom-based, laptop lifestyle?” with a link to click. The landing page the email subscriber is taken to after clicking the link might then look like this.
Solo ad vendors generally sell their lists by cost per click, and by Tier 1 or Tier 2 countries. Developed countries are Tier 1. I never buy Tier 2 clicks because those countries are poorer and the likelihood people will click through and buy is greater from the developed nations in Tier 1.
If a solo ad vendor is charging significantly less than others, chances are their list is garbage, so don’t be fooled. .40 to .60 cents per click is what most reputable people charge.
Remember, just because someone clicked the link that took them to your landing page, doesn’t mean they’ll opt-into your email list or buy from you.
Are Solo Ads Worth It?
Are solo ads worth it? I’ve rented space by buying solo ads many times and they are a wonderful way to learn how to manage an email list.
Remember, buying advertising creates accelerated learning. You’ll learn how to properly write landing page ad copy, how to split test landing pages, how to properly title emails so they get opened, how to write persuasive emails that get people to click the links within them and then ultimately buy from you.
Solo ads are a great way to get new subscribers. Solo ad lists are largely made up of people who like opting into things to receive free stuff. So, an offer like a free download, free webinar, or coupon might do the trick.
However, my experience is that new subscribers who find me through the solo ads I’ve purchased don’t normally buy anything. I think they like to window shop and ‘kick tires.’
Where To Buy Solo Ads
Udimi.com and Fiverr.com are both great resources and places to shop for solo ad vendors. Be sure to read reviews and don’t be suckered by positive reviews that claim they got lots of new subscribers. That’s great, but you probably want to make sales, so look for reviewers who made sales and then leave positive feedback.
All in all, solo ads are a cheap and easy way to start out building an email list. You’ll likely get quite a few people to your offer or landing page quickly, so your learning will be accelerated and if you aren’t able to keep up and learn fast enough it’s okay, because solo ad clicks are cheap.
Hopefully you can now answer the questions; What are solo ads? How do solo ads work? Are solo ads worth it? and Where to buy solo ads? If you understand that many solo ad vendor’s lists are predominantly made up of people who like to opt in to receive free stuff, then your expectations will be in the right place. Use them to learn the basics of writing ad and landing page copy and managing an email list.

Four Principles To Create Your Best Life
PRINCIPLE #1 KNOW YOUR VISION
Stuart talks about vision moments. My girls screamed with delight, as they touched snow for the very first time and like a light switch, I instantly realized that no job was worth missing my kids’ childhood and making quality memories together. That’s the vision that keeps me motivated. I’m putting the effort in now, so I have free time and extra money to make memories with my wife and kids for many years to come.
PRINCIPLE #2 INVEST IN YOURSELF
“Every day I make sure that in some capacity, I’m investing in myself. Unlike school, as a self-learner, you get to choose the areas you’re enthusiastic about and you get to choose the people that you’re learning from.” The most important investment I’ve ever made has been in me and my education, not a 401k. The return on your investment is the ability to earn income, no matter what the economy is doing.
PRINCIPLE #3 DO THE WORK
Find someone who has what you want and do what they did! Find someone who’s willing to teach, who’s been there and done what you’e looking to do, and follow their lead. I tried to build several online businesses early on, without a guide, and failed. Then I found the SFM and their guidance allowed me to succeed. It’s designed to help anyone go into business for themselves online.
PRINCIPLE #4 KNOW YOUR VALUES
If you don’t know your values, then it’s time to uncover and illuminate them. Then, everything else you do will be aligned with your values. I decided to make a change and learn the skills necessary to be self-employed online, so that I’m always available to make memories with my wife and kids. God, integrity, loyalty, having fun, and passion are a few other values I hold dear. What values drive your daily actions?
