One of the most common questions aspiring online entrepreneurs often ask is, how much does it cost to start an online business?
There are costs to starting any business, online or brick and mortar and the costs involved often depend on your level of experience, business model, time horizon and goals.
Click the video below to hear what my mentor and co-founder of the SFM, Stuart Ross has to say about it.

Stuart actually replaced his 9 to 5 income as an online affiliate marketer within his first six months of working online, so he knows what he’s talking about.
He’s found that many people start with a vision of selling a product or service online, but then find it’s easier to start out as an affiliate, marketing someone else’s products. It allows people time to develop their skills and get comfortable working on the internet, while making money.
Stuart focuses on the investment in his education and encourages others to do the same. That is one cost that must be considered.
Starting any business without experienced people to guide you is a recipe for disaster, because so many expensive mistakes will be made that could’ve been avoided. He’s says that leveraging the experience and guidance of others will not only drastically speed up the process, but will also guide you around making mistakes.
He encourages people to set aside a certain percentage of their paycheck to go toward education of some kind.
Affiliate marketing gives people the ability to get started online for free. As I’ve mentioned before, I got my start as an Amazon affiliate, but there’s no training.
My experience has taught me that you can get started with your own online business for only a few hundred bucks. You must have a website and hosting, and there are a few other fixed expenses. However, the more you have to invest in training, the faster you’ll see a return on your investment. That’s just the way it is. If you have $5000 to invest in training and a little advertising, you’ve got enough to make a serious start.
Hopefully this video of Stuart gets you thinking.

Meet Stuart Ross, SFM Co-Founder and Your Guide
“Welcome! I started my journey into the digital and entrepreneurial world with nothing more than perseverance, a laptop and a dream.
To date, I’ve created a multi-million dollar lifestyle business in the education and technology industry that I absolutely LOVE. My driving passion is sharing the know-how and mindset that lets others feel the same way.
The reason they call me The Freedom Entrepreneur is because I refused to accept the constraints of traditional employment. Having successfully found a better route, I’m committed to showing others how to live life on their own terms too.”
Stuart and his team have helped thousands of people who want to be self-employed from the comfort of their computers, but don’t know how. The SFM’s Digital Business System and community are one of the fastest ways to get you from where you are, to where you want to be.
Four Principles To Create Your Best Life
PRINCIPLE #1 KNOW YOUR VISION
[arve url=”https://vimeo.com/331979772/d485b8d713″ align=”center” promote_link=”no” /]
Stuart talks about vision moments. My girls screamed with delight, as they touched snow for the very first time and like a light switch, I instantly realized that no job was worth missing my kids’ childhood and making quality memories together. That’s the vision that keeps me motivated. I’m putting the effort in now, so I have free time and extra money to make memories with my wife and kids for many years to come.
PRINCIPLE #2 INVEST IN YOURSELF
[arve url=”https://vimeo.com/331979878/48719c87e8″ align=”center” /]
“Every day I make sure that in some capacity, I’m investing in myself. Unlike school, as a self-learner, you get to choose the areas you’re enthusiastic about and you get to choose the people that you’re learning from.” The most important investment I’ve ever made has been in me and my education, not a 401k. The return on your investment is the ability to earn income, no matter what the economy is doing.
PRINCIPLE #3 DO THE WORK
[arve url=”https://vimeo.com/331979971/e17109f52c” /]
Find someone who has what you want and do what they did! Find someone who’s willing to teach, who’s been there and done what you’re looking to do, and follow their lead. I tried to build several online businesses early on, without a guide, and failed. Then I found the SFM and their guidance allowed me to succeed. It’s designed to help anyone go into business for themselves online.
PRINCIPLE #4 KNOW YOUR VALUES
[arve url=”https://vimeo.com/331980050/5c6d6e54a2″ /]
If you don’t know your values, then it’s time to uncover and illuminate them. Then, everything else you do will be aligned with your values. I decided to make a change and learn the skills necessary to be self-employed online, so that I’m always available to make memories with my wife and kids. God, integrity, loyalty, having fun, and passion are a few other values I hold dear. What values drive your daily actions?
It’s your time. Join us and we’ll show you how to recreate your life!
